Down under pt1...

Ok time to make a start cleaning off old underbody seal and surface rust from the rear floorpan.

Starting on the right wheel arch, down to the trailing arm and tie bar locating points. Then follow the main chassis beam back to bumper fittings, above and around the suspension area. finally around and under the spare wheel bay.

Above the petrol tank and left hand side to do.

Fitting and bending...

So I made a start on reassembling the rear axle. First off I fitter the new wheel cylinders to each side and then for the first I must say I carefully straightened out the replacement copper piping for the rear braking.

I fitted a new stainless steel braided brake hose to the axle and attached the end of the brake pipe then bent it around toward the right hand back plate locating into the new pipe clips as I went. Then locating the end into inlet at the back of the wheel cylinder.

With the cylinder to cylinder pipe I marked the middle point on the pipe and started bending and fitting to both sides.

Trailing arm, rear tie bar and anti roll bar...

After rubbing down and painting I fitted the new poly bushes. Using some of the wife's washing up liquid to lubricate they pushed in easily.

The anti roll bar was also stripped and painted.

Cleaning and painting...

With the rear suspension, axle and propshaft removed, I have stripped them back to bear metal and painted them black.

Now I have the new bushes and brake pipe kits, I can rebuild for fit later when the body work is complete.

Looking good – shame it's under the car!

New parts...

With plenty of sales on at the moment – I order some parts. Front/rear suspension bush kit (Poly) with new bolts, rear brum brakes overhaul parts and new copper brake pipes kit with a stainless steel braided hose.
