Engine rebuild pt7...

Sump pan - with all the nuts and bolts cleaned I did a dry fit. Then I removed them using a sheet of cardboard with holes to keep the bolts in the correct order. The front left hand engine mount had been already striped and painted with nuts and bolts identified.

I gave the block and flange one last wipe around with degrease and placed the gasket and sump pan, arranged the engine mount and hand tightened the bolts, then torqued them up. Finally a quick spay for black satin to cover any exposed metal.

Engine stand...

Been busy with work and visiting universities with my son over the last couple of weeks, so only spent the odd hours getting items ready for the rebuild.

I give the sump pan its first coat of paint which now rubbed down for second when weather warms up.

Striped and cleaned oil pump and filter bowl which has had a first coat of paint.

Also clean and prepped some parts for blasting - engine/gearbox mounting brackets, gearbox crossmember, tie bar and other odd items.

Also fixed the engine on to the stand - lifted into place easily and with ability to the spin the engine allows good access.

Engine breakdown... pt7

Carefully flipping the engine over gave me access the to the sump pan, after give all the bolts and nuts a good covering of WD40, I removed the front left hand engine support member/bracket then lifted off the sump.

In the bottom was a very thick layer of old oil which I sharped out and cleaned off the remaining gasket.
