I stripped down the 17 ACR down, cleaned and painted all the usual bits - checked the condition of the brushes and reassembled.

This is my record of the restoration of my 1977 Triumph TR7, I bought the car in 1983 for £1500. Over the four years of driving it I had got married, moved to a 110 year old cottage in need of renovation and given a new company car. The TR was parked in the garage (1987) at the end of the garden. I always joked saying "that one day I put it back on the road". Twenty-four years later (Nov 2011) that day has arrived - wish me luck.

Alternator rebuild...
I have a Lucas 17 ACR which is the original 36 amp fitted to the car. The donor car has an German branded after market 20 ACR with 66 amp output - which I'm going to keep as a spare.
I stripped down the 17 ACR down, cleaned and painted all the usual bits - checked the condition of the brushes and reassembled.

Alternator removed...
Time to strip stuff from the engine bay, started with the alternator - two bolts and it was off.
Quick check and seems to spin ok, worked fine the last time the car was used - I will get it checked.
